12.01.2023

A Milestone in Diplomatic Relations

January 12th, 2023, marked a significant day in the history of Morocco and Estonia as dignitaries, including Margus Reinsalu, the Honorary Consul of Morocco in Estonia, gathered at Toompea in the National Assembly building to celebrate 30 years of diplomatic relations. Organized in cooperation with the Estonian Parliament, the Embassy of Morocco, and Honorary Consul Reinsalu, the event was a testament to the enduring friendship and cooperation between the two nations.

Cultural Diversity and Warm Relations

Moroccan Ambassador Mohamed Achgalou, based in Finland, captivated the audience with his vivid portrayal of Morocco's diverse landscape. "I can give you 1001 reasons to come to Morocco. For example, you can see four seasons in two weeks," he remarked, illustrating the country's rich cultural and geographical tapestry, from the scorching deserts to the snow-capped Atlas Mountains.

A Taste of Morocco

The event also featured a delightful serving of traditional Moroccan tea and pastries, as captured in the photos by reporter Evelin Kivimaa. This cultural exchange was not just a treat for the taste buds but also a symbol of the shared warmth and hospitality that characterizes the Morocco-Estonia relationship.

Strengthening Parliamentary Ties

Significant strides have been made in strengthening parliamentary cooperation, with the formation of the Estonian-Moroccan parliamentary group in February 2022. Chaired by Raivo Tamm and comprising members like Sven Sester and Kaido Höövelson, the group is set to visit Morocco for high-level meetings, further cementing the bilateral relations.

A Journey from 1992

The journey began on June 22, 1992, when Ambassadors Ahmed Snousi and Ernst Jaakson signed a joint declaration in New York, establishing ambassadorial-level diplomatic relations. This declaration laid the foundation for a friendship that has flourished over three decades, marked by mutual respect and cooperation.
